Starting the Sapphire/Gateway

Starting the Sapphire/Gateway on a machine is very simple. First, you must set one or two environment variables, as detailed below. Then, to start the Gateway daemon, type

$SAPPHIRE/bin/dborbd.sh &
The dborbd.sh script will determine which databases are available and start the associated scripts.

Note: The Install program may have already started a Gateway. To determine if the Gateway is started, run one of the following:
BSD systems: ps -augxww | grep dborb
System V systems: ps - def | grep dborb
If the Gateway is running then the grep search above will return something like:
user 16232 0.0 0.6 88 340 p2 S 13:36 0:00 ./dborbd.syb
If the Gateway daemon is already running, skip to the chapter "Tutorial Setup." In the future, you will want to read Chapter 4 to learn how to restart the Gateway in the event that your machine is re-booted and the Gateway is terminated.
If no Sapphire/Gateway is running, please read on.
